I am proud to have fixed so many remotes, at minimum I disassembled all of these, cleaned all of the buttons all the way around (some where just so totally rancid) and replaced the joysticks. I even touched about half of these remotes with my soldering iron!
All replacement parts were either salvaged or bought from AliExpress
The most used part for getting the remotes back in working order.
About half of my remotes had one or both of these terminals corroded
Slightly harder to replace than the battery terminals but still very manageable once I found my copper desoldering braid
Definitely the most pleasant part to replace, once I had put new joysticks in and cleaned the plastic controller shell with alcohol the whole remote felt brand new!
New battery packs were just as vital as the replaced terminals, often times in the past the slightest bump would cause remotes to disconnect - due to the internal bit of metal being corroded. A temporary fix is to line the inside with some aluminum foil so that the batteries are connected. Though this still suffers from being bumped & disconnecting

For $10 this eclipses the $3.50 joysticks/dpad thing. Though its still hard to justify spending $10 on a shell when $10 just about buys you all the replacement internals for 50-100 remotes
Once ive used these custom shelled remotes Ill report back with if they feel worse than the OEM shell remotes
